26/9/2016 0 Comments Beavertown BeerMy Current Favourite BreweryFor a while now, my some of my favourite beers have come from a London brewery called Beavertown. Sure Brewdog will always be the brewery that got me into craft beer - but a combination of fantastic beer & insane can art has given Beavertown my top spot for now. They first came to my attention whilst attending a tap takeover at Brewdog Castlegate the evening before the 2016 AGM. There I tried Gamma Ray - their take on a classic American Pale Ale. This light, tropical, hop filled beer instantly got my attention, and I left that night with a couple of cans to take home with me. From then, I made a point of trying new Beavertown beers whenever I could - mainly finding them in either Brewdog, Deeside Drinks Emporium or Borsalino Bottleshop. I have since tried the following beers: Core Beers:
Without doubt my absolute favourite is Bloody Notorious - I almost found it to be the perfect beer. The orange aromas hit you as soon as you open the can, resulting in an extremely refreshing drink. I wish i'd had the opportunity to try this on draft - If I could buy a keg of this for home, I most definitely would! Onto the can art...Have a look at the pictures below, and tell me you've seen a collective of cooler can art elsewhere?! Sure Brewdog have has some bangers in RBIC & Neon Overlord, but I still think that Beavertown are the masters. The can for Peacher Man & Lupuloid are particular favourites of mine. I'd love to see them make more of their designs available as tee's and other merch. Beavertown were formed in 2011 in the basement of a London pub. They have since became one of London's coolest, flagship craft breweries. They have perfected their core range of beers and collaborated with some of the largest craft breweries in the world, which has resulted in them gathering a large, loyal fan base.

15/9/2016 0 Comments Beer Review - Neon OverlordBrewdogWow. I don't know where to start with this one. Neon Overlord by Brewdog is a 7.3% ABV chilli & mango IPA. Released today, I was lucky enough to pick up a couple of cans on my way home from work at Westhill Service Station. Opening the can you are lured in by the sweet fruity aromas of pineapple & mango. However, upon tasting - you are smacked in the mouth with a massive dollop of spicy chilli. This may not sound like everyone's idea of a good beer, but I really enjoyed it. The sweetness you get from the fruit is just enough to compliment the chilli. Not only is the beer awesome - the can design is up there with the best efforts from Beavertown, if not better. It is seriously cool. I wouldn't suggest that Neon Overlord be your entry to chilli beer - the chilli is very strong, and quite spicy. If you are a fan of chilli beer or just looking to try something different - then I highly suggest giving it a go 🍻
6/9/2016 0 Comments Beer52September's BoxJust a quick update today since receiving this month's Beer52 box yesterday. It looks to be a cracking selection of beers. This months box is Scottish themed and includes beers from:
Ferment magazine features an interview James Watt (Brewdog) plus various other features on Scottish craft beer. My snack this month is spring onion & Italian cheese Soffles. In particular i'm looking forward to trying out the various lagers in the box this month - especially from Brewgooder, as I think what they are doing with their clean water initiative is fantastic. Citrusy Wit is a 5.3% ABV witbier that is infused with tangerine, kaffir lime leaf and coriander. It pours a golden yellow colour and produces a frothy white head. I was unsure how I thought about the taste at first, I wasn't quite sure if I liked it or not - I couldn't put my fingers on the flavours. However, the more I drank it, the more I came around to it. I think the first thing that hit me was the strong malty, musty wheat flavours. These however, are balanced out by the bold, citrus flavours, which certainly help quench the thirst. I paired Citrusy Wit with fajitas, that had a little kick to them and the sweetness of the tangerine and lime in the beer complimented the spice of the fajitas perfectly. Overall, I would say that I enjoyed this beer and would without doubt recommend it. Witbier is still something i'm getting into, and I've since tried a couple more that have gone down well.
I'm keen to try more from Stone Brewing as I've heard great things about their IPA's, so i'll definitely be keeping an eye out for them in the future 🍻 www.stonebrewing.com/ |
