23/12/2016 0 Comments Beer Review - AppleationBeavertownNEW BEAVERTOWN ALERT... I get a little excited whenever the brewing heroes that are Beavertown release a new beer, and yet again Westhill Service Station have come through with the goods. Appleation is a 8.7% ABV Bramley Apple Saison, that is described by Beavertown as; A brew to finish a day in the fields! This sparkling wine / beer hybrid perfectly balances the familiar spicy characteristics of the saison yeast and apple tartness with rich honey notes. It sounds like the right kind of beer for this time of year then... Cracking open the (again) beautifully designed can you are met with citrusy, spiced apple aromas which are excellent and the beer pours light amber with a finger thick white head. On taste, you get a nice and refreshing citrus flavour with a spiced acidic apple backbone. There’s not much bitterness at all present in this beer, and the alcohol is well hidden by the sweet, fruity aftertaste. You could almost be convinced that this beer is in fact, a cider!
Overall, a good, but not outstanding beer and not one of Beavertown’s more impressive efforts. 3.5 out of 5 hops from me 🍻 www.beavertownbrewery.co.uk/ www.instagram.com/beavertownbeer/ www.facebook.com/beavertownbrewery/

22/11/2016 0 Comments Beer Review - TropigammaBeavertownAs soon as I heard about this beer, I knew I was going to love it. Tropigamma by Beavertown is a 7% ABV Tropical IPA. Produced as an ode to their classic American Pale, Gamma Ray - Tropigamma is brewed with what Beavertown describe as bucket loads of fruit; lactose, pineapple, mandarin, papaya, passion fruit, guava, mango and lime juice. This may sound a bit of a strange combination to some people - but if you have never tried a beer by Beavertown before, then you are going to be in for a surprise. I was lucky enough to pick up a few cans from Westhill Service Station Upon cracking open the can and pouring into a glass, aside from the fruity aromas, the first thing that you notice is the colour - You are greeted with a thick, dark, pulp like substance that oozes fruit. The juicy tropical fruit flavours in this beer are explosive, and unlike any beer I've ever tasted before. The such bold fruitiness of the beer could almost leave you thinking that it is an alcoholic fruit juice. But that's where the bitter hops come in, combined with the addition of oats to remind you that this is infact one helluva beer first, and fruit juice second! The result is a masterpiece by Beavertown - these guys don't do half measures. Again, the folks at Beavertown have produced another freaking awesome looking can to go with the rest. I really wish they would start printing their designs on tees. Although, it's maybe better they don't...as I'd want to buy them all! Tropigamma continues Beavertown's stellar reputation for making incredible beers. They are the masters.
I love Tropigamma so much, it may just rival Bloody Notorious for the crown of my favourite beer. If you're lucky enough to get your hands on some, be sure to check it out while you can 🍻 www.beavertownbrewery.co.uk/ www.instagram.com/beavertownbeer/ www.facebook.com/beavertownbrewery/ 27/10/2016 0 Comments Beer Review - Stingy JackBeavertownIt's getting to the pumpkin beer time of year again! I'm a huge fan of pumpkin beer, having tried and loved both Pumpkin King by Brewdog & Post Road Pumpkin Ale by Brooklyn Brewery. So naturally, I was excited about trying the latest effort from my favourite brewery - Beavertown! Stingy Jack is a 7.2% ABV spiced pumpkin ale. Straight off the bat you are hit with the aromas from the spices they've loaded in there, however on taste this is offset by the sweetness of the maple roasted pumpkin that makes up the beer. It is such a great beer to drink, the spices and sweetness work so well together, and it's not overly hoppy either. And once again, Beavertown pull off another masterclass in can art...I mean just look at how awesome that can looks! All in all, Stingy Jack proves to be another stellar effort by Beavertown, and I highly recommend giving it a try. Also, if you are yet to try any pumpkin ale for yourself...then what are you waiting for? 🍻
www.beavertownbrewery.co.uk/ 26/9/2016 0 Comments Beavertown BeerMy Current Favourite BreweryFor a while now, my some of my favourite beers have come from a London brewery called Beavertown. Sure Brewdog will always be the brewery that got me into craft beer - but a combination of fantastic beer & insane can art has given Beavertown my top spot for now. They first came to my attention whilst attending a tap takeover at Brewdog Castlegate the evening before the 2016 AGM. There I tried Gamma Ray - their take on a classic American Pale Ale. This light, tropical, hop filled beer instantly got my attention, and I left that night with a couple of cans to take home with me. From then, I made a point of trying new Beavertown beers whenever I could - mainly finding them in either Brewdog, Deeside Drinks Emporium or Borsalino Bottleshop. I have since tried the following beers: Core Beers:
Without doubt my absolute favourite is Bloody Notorious - I almost found it to be the perfect beer. The orange aromas hit you as soon as you open the can, resulting in an extremely refreshing drink. I wish i'd had the opportunity to try this on draft - If I could buy a keg of this for home, I most definitely would! Onto the can art...Have a look at the pictures below, and tell me you've seen a collective of cooler can art elsewhere?! Sure Brewdog have has some bangers in RBIC & Neon Overlord, but I still think that Beavertown are the masters. The can for Peacher Man & Lupuloid are particular favourites of mine. I'd love to see them make more of their designs available as tee's and other merch. Beavertown were formed in 2011 in the basement of a London pub. They have since became one of London's coolest, flagship craft breweries. They have perfected their core range of beers and collaborated with some of the largest craft breweries in the world, which has resulted in them gathering a large, loyal fan base.
You can find out more about Beavertown's awesomeness in the following places: www.beavertownbrewery.co.uk/ www.instagram.com/beavertownbeer/ www.facebook.com/beavertownbrewery/ I can't wait to try more from this fantastic brewery 🍻 29/7/2016 0 Comments My current favourite beerMy current favourite beer is Bloody 'Ell Blood Orange IPA by Beavertown Brewery, who are also my favourite brewery at the moment.
As soon as I seen this advertised on Instagram, I knew I was going to like it - what's not to like?! IPA is my favourite style of beer, and mixed with blood orange... It could only be good! I finally picked up some from Deeside Drinks Emporium in Banchory (more on this place later) and it's safe to say I was not disappointed. The resulting beer is a solid hoppy IPA with a citrus orange flavour throughout, there is a slight bitterness to it, but to too much so that it upsets the pallet. It comes in at a hefty 7.2% ABV, so it does come with a slight punch to it. Beavertown have since released a collaboration with Boneyard Brewing from Bend, Oregon called Bloody Notorious Blood Orange DIPA coming in at a whopping 9.1% ABV. I've not tried this yet, but I'm hoping to get my hands on some before it disappears. |
